LUDHIANA: Teaching work at Punjab Agricultural University has been paralyzed since Nov.23 as the students are on an indefinite strike to protest the abduction of a fellow student Satnam Singh.

The agitating students from all the five colleges on the campus held a rally in front of the vice chancellors office on Tuesday. They alleged that Satnam Singh was kidnapped by the police from the PAU hostel number seven on November 16

His fate is not known

Satnam Singh who hailed from Thikriwal village in Gurdaspur district was a brilliant student He stood second in the B.Sc examination from Guru Nanak Dev. University and had been regular in his attendance at the classes at PAU which he joined over a year ago. The students said a police party which had gone to his village to pick him up but could not do so as he was away. They averred that Satnam Singh was innocent.

Raising anti-police anti-government and anti-PAU authorities slogans the students expressed the feat that he might be liquidated in an encounter.

The students have been boycotting classes and examination.

The PAU vice-chancellor Dr.Khem Singh Gill told the agitated students that he had spoken to the Punjab Chief Secretary Ajit Singh Chatha on the telephone earlier in the day urging him to find the missing student.

Dr.Gill said he had also sent telegrams to the home secretary and the director general of police in this regard. He had also taken up the matter with the police chiefs of Ludhiana and Amritsar

The police however deny having picked up the boy.

A strong contingent of the police was deployed on PAU campus in view of the students strike.
