LOS ANGELES: A prominent dynamic World Sikh Organization leader died of a massive heart attack on Thursday morning, May 18, 1995 at a local hospital in Los Angeles, California, The untimely and sudden death has created a void in the Sikh community. His contributions to the Sikh world will be remembered by all, Mr. Chima came (o the United States in 1955 for higher studies and got his Masters in Civil Engineering from Illinois. He was the President and Chief Engineer of Valley Soils Engineering Corporation based in Los Angeles, California. He was a registered Professional Engineer in the states of Illinois, California, Nevada, Oregon and ‘Washington, Mr. Chima was involved in very large construction projects, in the above states and provided Engineering and Construction services. Some of the major projects in California included: University Towne Center, La Jolla; Oakridge Mall, San Jose; Solano Mall, Fairfield; West Covina Shopping Center, West Covina; Westwood Villa, ‘Westwood; Fashion Valley, San Diego; Laguna Hills Regional Center, Laguna Hills; Bank of America, Los Angeles; Sikh Temple, Fremont; Brentwood Medical Center, Brentwood; Bing Theater, USC; West Coast University, Los Angeles; Nevada: Las Vegas Fashion Show, Las Vegas; Oregon: Clackamas Tower Center, Portland; Rogue Valley Mall, Medford: Washington: Villa Plaza, Tacoma; Kelso Town Center. Kelso.
In 1981, the then Governor of California Bdmundi GBrown appointed. Mr, Chima to be member of the Governor’s Asian Indian Advisory Council. In 1992, the Lieutenant Governor of California Leo McCarthy, appointed Mr. Chima to the commission on Prevention of Hate Violence.
Mr. Lakhbir Singh Chima was also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers, and the California Society of Professional Engineers
In addition to his professional responsibilities, Mr. Chima devoted time to the Sikh community: He Was the President and Chairman of the Sikh Study Circle of Los Angeles from 1980 to 1983; Vice President of World Sikh Organization, President of World Sikh News: Founding member of numerous Gurdwaras and served the community in other capacities.
