NEW DELHI (PTI): The Indian government August 6 allowed free import of 30 items of professional grade audio and video studio equipment without license.
The items which have been allowed free import include certain types of professional video tape recorders, editing controls for video tape recorders, wireless microphones, types of computerized editing systems, Three D and Two D computer graphics, video typewriters, audio mixing consoles and heavy duty and ultraportable tape recorders, an official press release said. Consumer electronic goods, equipment and systems and consumer telecommunication equipment are in the negative list of imports in the new Exim (export-import) policy import of these items is not permitted except against a license or in accordance with a public notice.
However, there are a number of electronic items required by professionals which are not in the nature of consumer electronic equipment or consumer telecommunication equipment. Such professional grade audio and video studio equipment can now be imported freely and without license, the release said.
