The Janata Dal general secretary, Mr. Yashwant Sinha told newsmen that Mr. Chandra Shek har left on Tuesday morning by an Indian Airlines flight to Raipur via Bhopal. However, the plane went no further than Bhopal and returned to Delhi. Mr. Chandra Shekhar was left stranded in the Madhya Pradesh capital, some 800 kms away from his destination.
Mr. Rama Rao, who is also the National Front chairman arrived more than three hours late here on Monday owing to cancellation of Indian Airlines flights from Visak hapatnam and delay of the flight from Bhubaneshwar, disrupting his schedule of addresses to public meetings in Haryana and Punjab.
Mr. Sinha said his party had talked to Indian Airlines agitating engineers and alleged that the whole problem had been “artificially created” by the government. He charged that the Government had conspired with the Indian Airlines management to create situation which would affect the movement of opposition leaders during elections, since they we i not al lowed to use state government aircraft
In this connection, Mr. Sinha drew attention to the ease with which the Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, was traveling in military aircraft, and said the distortion of the system was obvious. The general secretary said conciliation proceedings in Indian Airlines were going on at a slow pace, and the Government appeared to be in no hurry to end the engineer’s agitation.
