COIMBATORE: A massive combing operation is in progress in Tamil Nadu’s Nilgiris district since Friday to nab Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) militants suspected to be hiding there.
G Ganesan deputy inspector general of police Coimbatore range told newsmen that on receipt of information about the Sri Lankan militants’ movements in the forests the Nilgiris district police helped by armed policemen were carrying out the search.
He said the large number of Lankan patriates working in tea estates in Masanagudi was left undisturbed.
Police are also following up the information provided by Vicky and Raghu two arrested Sri Lankan Tamil Militants that Dixon an LTTE communications expert had made a “sight-seeing” trip to the Udhagamandalam hill resort in mid-July while the special investigation team’s probe into the Rajiv Gandhi assassination was in progress. Dixon was accompanied by another militant Guna both of whom committed suicide later to evade arrest
Meanwhile the city police have started re-verification and spot-checking of Sri Lankan Tamils who had registered their names according to government instructions.
