SAN JOSE, CA: About 150 Sikhs gathered in front of the Federal/ INS building in San Jose and demonstrated against the Indian government for its violation of human rights, the demonstration went on for two hours. The Sikhs carried banners and posters condemning the Indian government for its brutalities, torture, rape, and deaths of minorities, many of them carried pictures of those Sikhs who have been tortured to death. Those pictures were graphic. The crowd chanted slogans such as “Amnesty in Punjab Now,” “Down with India,” “India! Stop Violating Human Rights of the Sikhs,” “We Want Khalistan,” “Stop Rape of Sikh Women in Punjab,” “Human Rights in India Now.”
The demonstration was very successful. Many people had taken some time off of their work to join the demonstration against the fascist, oppressive regime of India. India has been cited on numerous occasions by Amnesty International, Asia Watch and other national and international human Rights Organizations for violating the rights of individuals. At least 50,000 Sikhs languish in India Jails. According to Amnesty Interactional virtually every political detainee captured under many draconian laws in India.
