KURALI: While the men allegedly involved in an incident of beating to death of a Chandigarh Police Inspector, Surjit Singh Bhullar, at Dhakoran Khurd village on October 15 are absconding, the controversy persists over the immediate provocation for the incident. The makeshift booth with words “Bhullar Estate” engraved on it still stands on the land where the two groups clashed leading to the death of Bhullar. The dispute arose following the sale of over 37 acres of the shamlat land for which the formalities are yet to be completed. The problem began when Bhullars, according to the villagers, did not let the others plough the 40 kanal areas as per the agreement, in all there were around 22 families which had a share in the land. The villagers told that a few families were unhappy with the transaction. These include persons who were injured in the fight.
At present, six such persons are hospitalized, including two women. While 80yearold Arjan Singh is in a serious condition and lying at the PGL, the remaining three are at the local Civic Hospital. One of them Gumam Singh said that Bhullar and his sons along with 1516 men attacked them with sticks and iron rods first.
