WASHINGTON DC: Guru Gobind Singh Foundation held a special Kavi Darbar recently in memory of the martyrs who have laid down their lives in struggle for Independence of Khalistan. In this emotionally ‘charged Kavi darbar, renowned Poets from New York New Jersey and Washington, D.C. Paid glowing tributes to these heroes of today. S. Randhir Singh and S. Rajinder Singh touched the hearts of the audience with their sentiments expressed in their poems.

Dr. Surjit Kaur, secretary of G.G.S.F, said that these brave young men and women have ‘embraced death to restore pride and dignity to Khalsa,

Dr. Bhajan Singh said that the Sikhs in the West must maintain our identity for which hundreds of Sikhs have sacrificed their lives in Punjab.

Dr.Rajwant Singh, Executive Director of G.G.S.F. while speaking on the life of Sukhbir Singh, a young man from N.Y. who was killed by the security forces in Punjab, said “we are indebted by the sacrifices of these Gursikhs who are opposing the brutal Indian forces and who have only one goal in mind, which is to achieve an independent nation for all Sikhs.

Dr. Singh further stated that “we must not be misleading by the tremendous propaganda by the Indian govt. against our freedom fighters. It is the anti- social and criminal element which has been infused by the Indian intelligence in the Sikh movement to reduce the sup- ort of the masses in Punjab The true freedom fighters maintain a very high moral standard and respect for Sikh values”.

He added, we the Sikhs, in America and Canada have to work hard to support this struggle in every way possible and learn from the revolutions ‘sweeping Europe and Russia”. We should also continue for fight cases of our brothers who are languishing in jails in ‘America like Bhai Sukhminder ‘Singh and Bhai Ranjit Singhin New. York. S.Gurmit Singh, representative of Sikh Youth of America from N.J. also paid tributes to the martyrs and spoke about the role of his organization in this movement.
