NEW DELHI: Historians associated with the All India Babri Masjid Action Committee (AIBMAC) in their interim report to the Government have asked that arrangements be made for their visit to Ayodhya so that they can examine excavated material.

The historians have however taken strong objection to the Vishwa Hindu Parishads demand for further excavation at the site. It would be a sad day for Indian archaeology if a mosque is dug up merely to satisfy the chauvinistic urgings of the VHP they said. The historians have said that after going through the material from the B.B Lal excavations as well as the video cassette of the VHP finals they are convinced of the necessity to visit Ayodhya to make an on the spot study of the excavated material.

The visit would only be possible if the Central Government made the necessary arrangements for their travel and security in Ayodhya they said A VHP historian Dr.S.P.Gupta has stated that the VHP funds were made by employees of the UP Govt.
