AYODHIA: With the Indian security Forces remaining a mute witness, scores of Hindu fundamentalists belonging to Bajrang Dal stormed the historic Babri Masjid here, damaged the outer wall to the north and the east of the main structure treading to a call by Indian Muslims to observe a protest day on November 9 throughout the country.

While the B.J.P led U.P. government proclaims its adherence to the rule of law swearing it will not allow the status quo to the changed, its administration is quietly permitting the Hindu fundamentalists to occupy, damage and destroy the mosques Ghatthe” way is paved” for the construction Of a temple in the name of the mythical King Ram.

it was around 9:45 a.m., on October 31 the so-called pilgrims were entering the complex for “darshan” that a group of 20 Bajrang activists from Allahabad forced their way atop the disrupted structure Racing up a narrow stairway at the south end, the youth climbed up the domes and planted their saffron flags which remained undisturbed for 10 minutes even as the C.R.P.F was posted there in strength.

It was after sometime that the C.R.P.F Men got orders to disperse the unauthorized occupants. By then the supporters of Hind fundamentalists were cheering the action of the Bajrang nativists. The fags were Inter removed by the C.R.P.F, However, as the news of the Bajrang action spread; more fundamentalists poured into reinforce the attack. Security men, mostly upper caste Hindus, sulked and quarreled among themselves, the Bajrang men mounted a fresh attack. They were armed with pick axes and quickly stared hammering the wall face with bricks. Portions of the wall crumbled under the impact. The fundamentalist’s  came all the way from Delhi and Chandigarh.

The events at Ayodyia shocked the Muslim world with Sayad Abdullah Bukhari of Jamma Masjid, Delhi, giving a 24 hour ultimatum to the Indian government to hand over the entire disputed complex at Ayodhia to the army and declaring the area as disturbed. The Indian government response to the call was a statement that security in the area had been further strengthened. Meanwhile, the enraged Muslims gave a call for a countrywide protest day on November 9.

Bukhari suggested that a joint team of Muslims and Hindus in tell actuals and journalists should be allowed to visit the shrine to make an on the spot report on the extent the damage caused to the complex by the Hindu fund a mentalists. This visit is being opposed by the B.J.P.F led U.P. government which last week not only arrested Akali leader Simranjit Singh Mann but also did not allow a team of Congress (I) D, Janata Dal and S. J.D. members to visit the spot.
