NEW DELHI, India— Hindu leaders in the southern city of Trivandrum Thursday called off a protest over the building of a rostrum for Pope John Paul II near a sacred Hindu bathing site, the Press Trust of India reported.

The news agency said Hindu groups were satisfied with assurances by the Roman Catholics that rostrum from which Pope Paul II will address the crowd on his Feb. 8 visit to the coastal city would be demolished the following day.
