PATIALA: The Punjab Health Department has accepted in principle that PCMS doctors should be given higher pay scales than central doctors, as was the case till 1986, keeping it in view the highest precipitate income of the state of Punjab. It has agreed to recommend to the pay commission most of the demands of PCMS doctors regarding pay scales.

Decision to this effect was taken in a recently held meeting of the department committee. The Punjab doctors have demanded pay scale of Rs 16,000 on entry into service, with time scale promotion after every four years of service and a pay of Rs 1.25 lakh for the Director General of Health Services.

The department has also agreed to recommend the other demands of PCMSA, including, restoration of NPA on percentage basis without any ceiling, B-class city house rent to all doctors, substantial increase in rural health allowance and grant of risk allowance, family separation and children education allowance to doctors serving in the rural areas of the state.
