NEW DELHI (PTI): People who ‘are eager to be there while Michael Jackson performs in Delhi on Noy.29 and Dec.1 have to shell out 25% more, reports the economic ties.
This means that the tickets, until now in the denominations of Rs 2,000, Rs 1,000 and Rs 500, will now go for Rs 2,500, Rs 1,250 and Rs 625 respectively. This move by the promoters of the “dangerous” tour in India follows the decision by the Delhi Administration not to exempt the shows from entertainment tax.
According to the Delhi administration, a tax of Rs 25 million has *been levied on the proceeds from ticket sales, which are going to be Rs 50 million for each show.
The tax has been slapped on the shows as they do not come under any of the categories for which exemption is allowed, Delhi follows the UP entertainment and betting act of 1937.
Under this, only those shows where all the proceeds go to charity are exempt from tax, or where no payment is made to the sponsors.
The promoting company has deposited the total amount, in the form of 10 checks for Rs 2.5 million each, with the department of excise.
