CHANDIGARH: Justice R.K. Nehru of Punjab and Haryana High Court last week issued direction to the Home Secretary Punjab to get Sohan Singh former director of Health examined by a team of qualified doctors within two days of the receipt of the orders.

In the miscellaneous petition filed by Tewant Singh son of Sohan Singh it was alleged that for the last six weeks the body temperature of Sohan Singh had gone as low as 96 F from 98.4 F and neither doctor visited him daily nor his blood pressure or temperature had been checked for the last two weeks.

it was also alleged that Sohan Singh was suffering from hypothermia hythus hemia and abdominal hemia. There was no adequate medical help in the town of Amritsar for such an emergency it was alleged. G.S. Grewal with Baljit Kaur Mann and H.S.  Grewal submitted that no special food was prescribed for the detainee even though it was the minimum requirement. He was being kept in solitary confinement from 6 pm to 6 am and there was NO provision for emergency Call for help The request of the detainee to provide him with a tilted bed so that he might be able to do anti-gravity therapy had also not met with any favorable response the submission said.

The judge has directed that the orders be conveyed to home secretary immediately. The case will come up for further proceedings in April.
