She said that the jail authorities had meted out very humiliating treatment to these persons despite protests,
Dang had written to the Chief Minister Beant Singh, in this connection demanding action against the guilty jail officials since this was done in complete violation of the jail rules and on the basis of absolutely arbitrary decision of some jail officers.
No rule provides such shaving off in case of under trial prisoners, she pointed out.
Meanwhile, a deputation of citizens of the area led by Dang met the additional deputy commissioner and demanded withdrawal of cases against these persons and said that this incident had caused great resentment in the locality.
The deputy superintendent of jail Gurdev Singh when contacted said it was the “mischief of the barber of the jail.” Action in this regard was taken and he was given a shoe-beating by the jail authorities. On being pardoned by the concemed persons, the matter had been closed, he said.
