CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana High Court, in a judgment last Week ordered a probe by the Central) Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the infamous “jebkati” case, to be completed within three months, ‘The High Court also granted an interim compensation of Rs.50, 000, payable within a month, to each of the four women petitioners whose foreheads Were tattooed allegedly by the Amritsar police, in December.
A division bench comprising Justice A.P. Chawdhry and Justice Jawahar Lal Gupta, while hearing the case in a packed court room, loft it to the pet packed to file a claim, if any, for enhancing compensation in the same Court till August 9. Till then, the petition would remain pending.
The Court accepted the petitioners’ Contention that they be permitted to undergo treatment at a clinic of their Choice since the doctors at the Rajendra Hospital had further disfigured their foreheads. The judges ordered the state government to bear all the expenses of the treatment which would now be undertaken at a private Clinic in Patiala.
