AMRITSAR: The Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission dismissed the contention of former SGPC Acting President Harinder Singh Tarn Taran tha the had only resigned as Acting President and continued to remain the SGPC Senior Vice President.

Harinder Singh had filed an application with commission on June 15 stating that SGPC Secretary Manjit Singh Calcutta had not only stopped sending him the minutes of the committee’s executive meetings but even stopped inviting him to such meetings.

The commission, acting on the petitioner’s application had asked the SGPC to file a reply by today.

Dismissing the application the commission comprising Dara Singh, Kashmir Singh and Raghbir Singh pointed out that under Section 62 of the Sikh Gurdwara Act there was no such post of Acting President. The only posts that existed in the SGPC were those of President, senior Vice President and General Secretary all of whom were elected members the commission said.

Therefore, it observed that Harinder Singh while resigning from the post of Acting President had actually resigned as Senior Vice President,

The petitioner had in his resignation letter written “I am resigning from my post due to personal reasons,” the commission said adding that it was presumed that Harinder Singh had resigned from’ his post of Senior Vice President.

Harinder Singh later told newsmen that he would move the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
