Mr Harbhajan Lakha, who has been elected to the Lok Sabha from the Phillaur (reserve) constituency, is the General Secretary of the Punjab Bhaujan Samaj Party.

Born in Karnana village in Nawanshahr tehsil of Jalandhar district on August 5, 1941, Mr Lakha did his graduation from National College, Banga. He joined Safdarjang airport in Delhi as an electrical engineer but resigned in 1978 under the influence Mr Kanshi Ram, President of the Babujan Samaj Party, to enter politics. He was elected President of the Jalandhar unit of the party in 1984.

He unsuccessfully contested the Assembly elections in 1985 from the Nawanshahr constituency.

Mr Lakha has four children. His younger brother, Mr Shingara Ram, is an IAs officer in U.P.

He secured the Phillaur Lok Sabha seat by defeating his nearest rival, Mr Charanjit Singh Atwal of the Akali Dal (Badal), by 8,955 votes.
