LONDON: Buzzer Hadingham, Chairman of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships said on Friday he was optimistic that a damaging conflict could be avoided in Men’s Tennis.
Hadingham was speaking on his return from New York where he met a top representative of the players union. The association of tennis professionals (ATP) which is threatening to break away from the established grand prix tour in 1990,
Hadingham said he put some new proposals to ATP Chief executive Hamilton Jordon aimed at resolving the current deadlock between ATP and the Men’s Tennis Council and avoiding the setting up of an independent tour by ATP.
A statement issued by Wimbledon said Jordon had agreed to give serious consideration to the proposals discuss them with his colleagues on the ATP board and participate in further talks.
“Lam optimistic that common sense will prevail and a damaging conflict between ATP and rest of the game of Tennis can be avoided so that ATP remains an important member of the world wide tennis family,” Hadingham said,
