HYDERABAD: Janata Dal leader George Fernandes has dashed off a habeas corpus writ telegraphically to the Supreme Court Chief Justice M.L.Venkatachalaiah seeking direction to the Andhra Pradesh government to produce the arrested PWG leader.

Fernandes who is here to participate in the two-day national convention of socialists, told newsmen on March 21 that in his telegram sent on Saturday night he expressed fear over the life of Seetaramiah being “held at an unknown place” and appealed to the Chief Justice to treat the telegram as a habeas corpus writ On Monday, a senior lawyer would move to the Supreme Court and plead for immediate protection of the Naxal leader before court, Fernandes said.

Meanwhile, police authorities here confirmed that Sunday being a holiday, Seetaramiah had been produced before an executive magistrate, and that he will be produced in the court on Monday.
