Belief in the oneness of god, universal brotherhood, truth, service and repetition of “name” was sunk deep in the minds of the Sikhs by the living examples of their Gurus. The futility of conflict between Hindus and Muslins was made obvious by pointing out their kin ship to one god, who valued right action and not birth. Baba Nanak began his missionary career by declaring “There is no hindu and no Muslim”, thus emphasizing the universal brotherhood of man Kind. It is significant that Guru Nanak had as his constant companion a Muslim rebeck player throughout his travels.
