Fremont, CA: April 11, Thousands of Sikhs from all over California gathered at a congregation here to pay homage to Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Jee on his birthday. The ninth guru of Sikhs was the father of Guru Gobind Singh, the founder of the Khalsa Panth. He assumed the Guruship on March 20, 1665 while he was engaged in meditation at Baba Bakala after Guru Harkushan Sahib Jee ascended to his heavenly abode.

Guru Tegh Bahadur Jee was a brave warrior and had fought in some of the batules under his father Guru Har Gobind Sahib. He travelled widely during his Guruship and founded Sikh congregation night up to Assam and Bengal in the East; He remained on the Gurugaddi for 13 years until his martyrdom in 1675 at the age of 54 years.

He is known as ‘Hindu Di Chaddar’ because he sacrificed his life to protect the Hindus and save them from persecution by Aurangzeb.
