GLENROCK, NJ: The avtar divas of Guru Gobind Singh Ji were celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm by the Sikhs of New Jersey.

The Sri Guru Singh Sabha in Glenrock, NJ commemorated the Gurpurb on January 7. Kirtan on the occasion was rendered by Bhai Nirmal Singh and children of the sangat between the ages of 5-15 recited Paths, the holy hymns from the Guru Granth Sahib, rendered. Kirtan, the singing of the holy hymns from the Guru Granth Sahib, and recited Sakhis, incidents from the lives of Guru Sahib, and poems.

Poets who recited the poems at the Kavi Darbar were Surinder Singh, Dr. Satwant Kaur Dhamoon, Sikhbir Singh and HarbhaJan Singh Gill.

The Sangat of the area decided to donate loans of $80,000 which they had given to the Gurdwara Sahib for the construction of the new Darbar Hall.

The Garden State Sikh Association in Bridgewater marked the occasion on January 14 and a large number of Sikhs of the region gathered at the Gurdwara to mark the birth anniversary of the tenth Guru of the Sikhs and the creator of the Khalsa.

Kirtan, the singing of the holy hymns from the Guru Granth Sahib, was rendered by Bhai Sandhu Singh the Hazuri Ragi of Hazur Sahib, followed by a Kavi Darbar in which Devinder Kaur Panchi, Satwant Singh Sadhar, and Dr. Satwant Kaur Dhamoon, recited poems.

The children of the local sangat also participated in the program and the Dhadi Jatha of Bhai Gurdial Singh of New York gave a stirring performance,

Dr. Gurmeet Singh Aulakh of the Council of Khalistan addressed the sangat for 30 minutes and emphasized that Khalistan is the only goal of the Sikhs. The Gurdwara decided to increase their contribution from $500 to $1000 a month. A collection of more than $2,500 was also made on the spot.
