LOS ANGELES: The Lankershim Gurdwara Sahib along with Alhambra, Buena Park Gurdwaras celebrated Guru Nanak’s birth anniversary here on Sunday, Nov 4.
After the bhog of Sri Akhand Path a kirtan darbar was held till 3pm. Hazuri Ragi Bhai Mohan Singh and Ragi Jatha of Giani Balwinder Singh Rangila sang, hymns.
Dhadi Jatha of Bhai Prem Singh Rurka sang inspirational ballads.
The beautifully decorated hall of the Gurdwara was packed with over 2,000 Sikhs, who were later served langar.
Panthic Committee member Bhai Satinderpal Singh said freedom fighters should be given all possible aid and he stressed unity among Sikhs.
Bhai Dhanna Singh, Bhai Gurmit Singh Walia and Dr Gurmit S Aulakh also addressed the Sangat.
The city and county administration issued proclamations declaring Oct 29 to November 4 as Guru gaddi Divas week. President Bush, Governor Deukmejian and the Vice President sent congratulatory messages.
LOS ANGELES: Very colorfully and enthusiastically the birthday Gurpurab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji was celebrated in Los Angeles Convention Center on Nov.4, 1990. The stage was decorated by Guru Ramdass Ashram. More than 10 jathas performed kirtan. The Shabads of children and Ashram’s ladies were captivating. Dr Hakam Singh spoke on the life of Guru Nanak, while Yogi Harbhajan Singh stressed the importance of five k’s and political lobbying.
Sangats came from as far as Modesto in North California and from Riverside and San Bemmadino countries. Expected were 5000 people, a record breaking 10,000 came.
Measuring the great unity, Sangat resolved to celebrate gurpurabs in the same united way in the future also.
