CHANDIGARH India, May 8, Reuter: Gunmen shot dead at least 22 people in northern India’s Punjab and Haryana states over the weekend, police said.
A police spokesman in Chandigarh, joint capital of the neighbouring states, said 13 of the victims were members of the nomadic Sansi tribe gunned down during a wedding party on Saturday night.
Five members of the tribe were seriously injured in the attack in the Haryana city of Panipat.
Hours earlier, gunmen shot dead a family of seven Sikhs in Patiala district after mistaking them for Nirankaris.
Police said gunmen also gunned. down Suresh Kumar Sharma, a local activist of the nationally ruling Congress (I) Party, on Friday as he sat in his car at a railway crossing at Ropar district.
