CHANDIGARH, India: Gunmen killed two people and police arrested a leading member of an active group which has Killed several persons in northern Punjab state, police said.

Gunmen shot dead a government employee in Bhatinda district and killed a man in Amritsar district, police said.

The killings ended a four day lull in violence in Punjab where Sikhs are demanding a separate

Sikh state which has claimed nearly 570 lives this year.

Police said they arrested Ajit ‘Singha member of a group headed by Tarsem Singh Kohar who is wanted for the killing of at least four Hindus in Patiala district.

Thousands of Hindus fled Sikh majority Punjab to neighbouring states earlier this year because of the killings.
