MOSCOW, Reuter: President Andrei Gromyko received US. defector Arnold Lock shin in the Kremlin and told him he was now among friends, the official news agency TASS said.
TASS quoted Gromyko as saying Lock shin had taken a courageous step in defecting to the Soviet Union with his wife and three children.
‘Soviet authorities have described Lock shin, who arrived in Moscow two days ago, as a cancer specialist at a hospital in Houston Who also did research at the Unities of Harvard and Southern California.
The Universities have said they have no record of him, and staff at the Houston hospital said Lock shin had been a Pharmacologist Who tested cancer drugs on mice.
TASS said Gromyko told Lock shin that his family’s defection was ‘Severe reproach to those who denied them the possibility to exercise their inalienable right to live freely and work with their own people.
“The Soviet people applaud the courageous act of Dr. Arnold Lock shin and his family, who now find themselves among friends”, the agency quoted Gromyko as saying.
Gromyko’s meeting with Lock shin closely paralleled the reception which President Reagan extended to Soviet dissident’s Yury Orlov, who arrived in the United States after being freed from internal exile in Siberia.
