Today we are celebrating the 8th anniversary of The World Sikhs News. Let us try to go back to the events of 1984 when our holiest shrine was attacked and when thousands of our innocent brothers and sisters were mercilessly killed in bright day light.
Yet in the eyes of the world Media we were the terrorists and we were the dirty war mongers who had “defiled” a holy place and who had killed the prime minister of the “greatest Dem Mocracy” in the world. What to speak of bringing to light the murder, maham and rape of our holiest places and our innocent children, we did not have even a shoulder to cry on or a paper to let out our feelings of utter deceit at the hands of those for whom we had sacrificed thousands of our lives. If nothing else The World Sikh News provided us with a place and a platform dunning those critical times and is continuing to provide us with a place where we can go to express our real sincere feelings and where we can hope to learn about our Sikh brothers in India and elsewhere, in their true perspective rather than through the prejudiced eyes of the Indian Govt.
It is through World Sikh News that we are able to openly discuss all the important matters concerning our social, cultural and spiritual values and fend off attacks from mischievous or misguided people such as Dr. McLeod and Pashaura Singh.
It is time that all of us look beyond the building or controlling of gurdwaras and start paying serious attention to building a strong media base and creating a powerful voice for Sikh interests. News Papers like.
The World Sikhs News can serve as an important stepping stone which needs to be Strengthened and expanded upon.
