NEW DELHI: “I used to come to Punjab to buy potato seeds,” Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda told the Sikh Conference here, taking the audience from the state down the memory lane.

Gowda said he used to come from his home state, Karnataka, to Jalandhar to purchase potato seeds, of high quality for cultivation in his village.

The Prime Minister said that by recalling the episode he wanted to drive home the point that the country was basically agriculture oriented, with 70% people belonging to rural areas.
