NEW DELHLI:-For the present the Chandra Shekhar govt appears to have survived a threat to its stability chiefly because of the incipient rebellion within the ranks of the ruling party failed to gather sufficient strength. The PM is also said to have silenced critics in the Congress-which supports his govt.

The Deputy PM Devi Lal who was planning (o stage a mutiny has been won over with promises of inclusion. Of his nominees in the Union Cabinet which is to be expanded soon.

The PM now has a better understanding with Rajiv Gandhi as a result of which there will be frequent consultations regarding important issues between the two leaders

Arun Nehru and several other Janata Dal leaders who had indicated their willingness to support an alternative Congress govt in the event of the collapse of the present govt have decided to play it cool until they hear from Gandhi.

In fact the move to form another govt was being pursued so seriously that Arun Nehru 7 other MPs and 20 Janata Dal MLAs who are unhappy with VP Singh’s leader ship did not attend the Party convention at Pun.

When Devi Lal and several congress leaders started toying with the idea of an alternative govt Nehru and others gave their tacit approval to the move which ultimately came & cropper.
