CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government is planning to gag the largest Punjabi daily the Ajit against publishing reports and advertisements on the Punjab situation.
According to information available here the state govt has told the paper’s management to immediately stop publishing the press notes issued by militant organizations as well as paid advertisements inserted by them informing the public about the last nights of Sikhs killed by security forces.
The Ajit management blamed CPI leader Satyapal Dang for the govt’s action against the newspaper.
Dang has been critical of Ajits coverage of the situation in Punjab as well as the advertisement. He has written many times to the govt seeking action against the paper.
