NEW DELHI The vague statements made by V.P. Singh during his visit to Amnitsar on Sunday are telltale signs of the govt’s game plan in Punjab according to the Times of India.

With the twice extended President’s rule due to lapse in November, VP Singh was expected to say something at the border villages of Lopoke where he addressed a public meeting

He did not mention the promised assembly elections. He steered clear of the promises made in Parliament in May while seeking extension of President’s rule. His silence alerted the press which repeatedly asked him about it after the meeting to no avail.

VP Singh was ready. He said a decision would be taken only after an all-party meeting this week. Since the CPI and CPM have already said they opposed elections and the Congress1 too is against Mann coming to power with the help of militant, the all party meeting will only be a formality.

Another likely option is the revival of the Assembly dissolved two years ago. V.P. Singh was however evasive saying the matter was sub Judice.

V P spent most of the time discussing farm and economic measures, He said the Rs 900 corer would go a long way in silencing the militants
