NEW DELHI: The BJP Oct.8, alleged that the government did not have any coherent or credible policy on Kashmir and expressed dismay that a situation of foreign-inspired insurgency was being viewed as a simple law and order problem,
The party’s perception of the situation Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, during a 70-minute meeting with a five member delegation led by the BJP president, M. M Joshi. The delegation included L.K.Advani, Sikandar Bakht, M.L.Khurana and K.N.Sahni.
Speaking to newsmen OcL8, Dr.Joshi said foreign money was flowing into Kashmir for militants while development funds were allegedly being pocketed by contractors, staff and militants, The BJP leaders conveyed their shock to Rao over the state government giving huge advertisements to newspapers carrying news only related to terrorists’ activitis.
“An IAS officer who had signed a petition to the UN against the security forces and who had ted a 72-day strike of government employees last year, had been appointed chief secretary over the head of three seniors. All these were wrong signals which confused and demoralized the services, civil and military and all law abiding citizens,” Dr Joshi said.
Rao reportedly agreed with the contention of the BJP leaders that Hindu refugees from the valley had not been given a fair deal and promised to look into the matter. The delegation also drew his attention to the plight of Hindu and Sikh refugees.
Dr Joshi distributed documents while stating that the United Nations Commissioner for Refugees here had given time to the Hindu refugees to see him after six months, He wondered how they would survive in the face of such apathy from various quarters, Rao reportedly assured the delegation to take up the matter with the UN Secretary-General.
