NEW DELHI (PTI): The government has further relaxed the baggage rules by removing several items, including VCRs, TV, cosmetics and cigarettes from the sensitive list and waived the five year limit for resale of imported goods.
The government also relaxed the customs provisions for Speedy disposal of confiscated vehicles, manmade yarn and fabric and bulk drugs to prevent deterioration of seized goods and for early realization of sale proceeds.
One of the five notifications issued in this regard said the persons found in possession of items which fall in the “sensitive” list, Would no longer have to prove 10 the customs their licit import. It would be for the customs to prove the smuggled nature of such items. Consequently barring gold and Silver, the government has removed cosmetics, cigarettes, transistors and diodes, synthetic yam and metalized yarn, cassette tape recorders, VCRs, VCPs, TV Sets and electronic calculators of foreign origin from the purview of Section 123 of the customs act.
