TISHKHORA: The Indian government has convened a meeting of leaders of various private armies operating in the eastern Indian state of Bihar, except those banned, to find a lasting solution to the frequent class conflicts in the state, the union minister of state for home, Subodh Kant Sahay, said on Sunday.

The minister told reporters ac- companying him to this village, where 15 persons were gunned down Tuesday that socio-economic tension had reached its Zenith in Bihar and going by what the villagers say, I apprehend a major backlash in the near future.

Lashing out at the ruling Janata Dal government in the state, he felt that the will to avert such clashes and determination to restore order was lacking. Communalism indulged by the powers that be is worse than that played by communal parties, he regretted.

Sahay parried questions whether imposition of president’s rule in the state was imminent.
