NEW DELHI: D D Thakur governor of the insurgency-riddled northeastern state of Assam met Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar and discussed with him the prevailing situation in the state
Ina meeting late Tuesday evening they took note of the progress of various developmental activities going on in the state a state government spokesman said. Thakur is likely to meet some central ministers during his stay here the spokesman said
The governor also addressed a meeting of the associated chambers of commerce and industry in which he appealed to the industrialists to invest in Assam and suggest measures for speedy development of the state.
He said New Delhi had agreed to allow institutional financing for the gas cracker complex for which a letter of intent has been issued by the government. Thirty two downstream projects of the complex had also been identified a state government release said.
An industrial development center for the northeastern states would soon be set up by the north eastern council to serve as a liaison organisation between the investors and the states Thakur told Assocham members.
A small committee of experts would also be set up soon to study proper utilisation of the natural resources of the states the governor said and invited the Assocham to nominate two members to the committee.
