BOMBAY (PTI): The government on April 6 banned the ongoing strike by the Indian Flight Engineers’ Association (IFEA) of Air India with immediate effect.
The Union labor ministry has issued an order banning the strike under subsection three of section 10 under the industrial disputes act as the strike continued despite the appointment of a tribunal headed by justice M.N.Roy for adjudication, Air India sources here said.
The association has been on strike since February 27 demanding additional flight engineer on long-haul flights, integrated crew concept and full wing and additional Stripe on their uniform.
The association president, K.R.Pankajan, when contacted, said “ban or no ban, we will continue the strike.” The association would present its case before Justice Roy who is holding the sittings in Bombay, he said after a general body meeting of the association Tuesday.
So far, 14 of the 69 flight engineers have been suspended since the strike began resulting in the grounding of 80% of the Boeing 747 and airbus A300 flights on the long-haul sectors.
Air India sources said the management would send a copy of the ban order to each of the flight engineers and hoped they would report for duty with immediate effect since the matter had already been referred to the tribunal.
