Under the modified Stable ford scoring system which counts 5 points for an eagle, 2 for birdie, 0 for par and minus 1 for a bogey Norman totaled 11 points to put himself 3 points behind the leader, Steve Pate, after the opening round of the International.
On the par 72 Castle Pines Golf Club, Norman had six birdies against a single bogey in what would have been a 67 in normal medal play.
“| played exceptionally well today,” said Norman, who won this event in 1989. “T enjoyed it But feel like I’ve been playing like this for quite a while now.”
