STOCKTON, CA: Santar Daljit Singh Mahal and Sardami Gurdev Kaur Mahal celebrated their50th Wedding anniversary with a spectacular function held at Micke Grove Park in Lodi, California. Over 200 people attended, and more than 100 of these were of the Mahal extended family, who came to celebrate this golden anniversary on April 13.

The  Mahals came from village Mahil Gahla in Punjab nearly 40 years ago, first arriving in Yuba City and the Settling in Lodi, CA, where they raised three sons. Baldev Singh, Kulwant Singh and Harbint Singh Mahal. sardar Daljit Singh Mahal is one of five brothers; Harbans Singh Mahal and Raghbir SinghMahal. Adarsh Singh Mahal and Kisha Singh Mahal four of whom immigrated to the U.S. Their father was Dhondha Singh Mahal and mother was Dhan Kaur, direct decedents of the village that still bears their family name.

Sardar Mahal, after Serving in the India Anny on the Burma front, immigrated to the U.S. where he became a manager of his cousin’s farm in Yuba City. He then spent 28 years working for the Lincoln School district in Lodi. Sardami Mahal worked hard at home – making and raising their family. Sardar Mahal was a member of the Stockton Gurdwara Management Committee for many years and most recently has been an active volunteer at World Sikh News.

The Mahal’s are well known for their kindness and generosity to both friends and family. This aspect of their personalities was much in evidence at the celebration – one highlight was the display of photos of family and friends and the many stories that accompanied them. The panty, beginning at3 p.m. lasted Gil well past 10 p.m. with wonderful music for dancing provided by the group Jatrande and a catered dinner that was enjoyed by all.
