General Motors Corporation is selling the assets of its axle operation in St. Catharines. This sale will put the future of 700 employees in jeopardy. The St, Catharines plant Supplies axles to GM’s truck plant in Oshawa and other company assembly locations in U.S. Some affected GM employees would be able to bump workers out of job with lower seniority at other plants belonging to the GM in the city. GM has already scheduled the closing of its St. Catharines foundry next year which will effect 20,000 workers.
