CHANDIGARH: The condition of the former President, Giani Zail Singh, has been fluctuating between bad and worse during the Test 10 days he has been in the PGI. In a series of continuing complications, he developed jaundice, on Dec. 12. He has been put on several support systems for reviving his vital body functions.
‘The former President was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the PGI, following a road accident near Ropar, on Nov.29. The accident has left him with a fractured right arm, left leg, a few ribs, dislocated left hip besides lacerated wounds on his for cheadi and right eye lid, Since then his condition has been deteriorating with every passing day.
Chest congestion which he developed two days after his admission to the PGI is still persisting. As a senior doctor of the PGI points out, “His old age, besides the history of two previous heart attacks and a coronary artery bypass surgery are among the factors which are hindering his recovery,”
The fracture sustained by Giani Zail Singhan the ribs is hampering breathing and all his vital functions are being monitored closely. ‘According to the PGI doctors, the cardiac condition of the former President had affected the functioning of his kidney, following which he has been put on hemodialysis from about three days. He is also continuing on assisted ventilation, A few days ago, he developed lung infection and his lungs have been bleeding intermittently.
