The report by the United News of India news agency Saturday said Parthasarathi, regarded by many as a pro Soviet leftist, submitted his resignation to Gandhi
“This report is’ baseless.” an external affairs ministry spokesman told The Associated Press. “There is no change in his status.”
Parthasarathi, former Indian ambassador to the United Nations and China, is considered the leader of an influential group of leftist academics and bureaucrats.
He flew to the southern City of Madras Sunday morning and was unavailable for comment.
