NEW DELHI, India, Nov. 27, Reuter: Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi is in no hurry to accept an invitation to visit China to settle a border dispute, the Hindustan Times reported on Friday,
Despite a perceptible improvement in relations following the last round of border dispute talks in New Delhi on November 17, Gandhi had no immediate plans to accept the Chinese offer, the newspaper quoted sources as saying. ‘An External Affairs Ministry spokesman declined to comment, The State of Sino Indian relations, despite the exudation of ‘warmth on both sides, is not such as to ensure that positive results shall flow from such a trip”, the newspaper said. India and China, which fought a border war in 1962, have held eight rounds of talks on the dispute. In April’ and May this year, China accused Indian troops of border violations. India denied the charge and said it wanted a peaceful solution to the dispute.
