NEW DELHI: Former chief minister of R-K.Hegde Saturday demanded that Rajiv Gandhi should resign his Parliament seat in view of the findings of the CRI on the telephone tapping issue.
Talking to reporters here the erstwhile ruling party Janata Dal leader said that the findings of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) which established that telephones of political personalities were tapped during the Congress-I rule at the federal level under Gandhi had exposed the “lies” that Gandhi told to Parliament.
Hegde said that Gandhi was guilty of lying to the highest forum in the country and should therefore apologies to Parliament and resign his seat in the Parliament. He said that Gandhi had misled the Parliament and thus committed breach of privilege.
“I believe my party is giving a notice of breach of privilege against Mr.Gandhi in the current session of Parliament” he said.
Hegde also said that Gandhi had not kept his assurance to Parliament that the Indian Telegraph Act will be amended suitably to prevent misuse of its provisions that enabled the authorities to tap telephones of individuals.
