JALANDHAR: Gurcharan Singh Randhawa, 72, a secretary of the Punjab committee of the Communist party of India (Marxist) (CPIM), died here late Tuesday after prolonged illness, reports PTI.

He was suffering from bone cancer.

Randhwa, who spent several years in jails and underground during India’s struggle for freedom from British colonial rule, was “elected as state secretary of the party last year.

He is survived by his wife, three daughters and a son.

Randhawa’a mortal remains were cremated at his native village.
