LOS ANGELES: The Sikhs of Southern California gathered in strength at the beautiful hillside home of Dr Narinder Singh Grewal December 8 for a fundraiser for World Sikh News.

The function which began at 6 p.m. went on well past schedule and the guests began leaving after midnight.

Dr Jasbir Singh Mann who did a marvelous job of introducing the speakers also spoke at length as to the importance of the media.

Dr Gurinder Singh Grewal president and editor in chief of the World Sikh News was the keynote speaker. He dwelt at length on the struggle for independence and the trials and tribulations of running the newspaper. He admitted that the World Sikh News was not perfect and that many of the complaints of the readers were genuine. But he gave an assurance that all efforts would be made to improve the paper and address the complaints. He said new technology was being acquired to improve the paper.

Dr Narinder Singh Grewal, the host welcomed the guests and appealed for committed support to WSN. Mrs Pritpal Kaur Grewal’s arrangement for the dinner and her gracious hospitality were much appreciated. Dr Narinder’s father, S Jagir Singh also looked after the guests

S Ravinder Singh Grewal and S Surinder Singh Sidhu went out of their way to make the function a grand success.

  1. Sher S. Sekhon president of a Khalsa College in Ludhiana, presented the contributions collected to Dr Grewal.

S Malkiat Singh Sidhu a prominent land developer and architect who is the chairman of the Lankershim gurdwara Sahib stressed the need to support World Sikh News.

S Sarabjit S Mann president of the same gurdwara echoed S Sidhu in cautioning World Sikh News to be impartial and objective in its news coverage. He pledged support to WSN.

Other speakers included S Jasbir S Tung, S Sohan Singh Chaudhri, Dr Amnitpal Singh, Dr Harbans Singh Saraon.

S Narinder Singh Somal secretary World Sikh News, thanked the guests for their valuable support and assured them that no effort would be spared to strengthen the newspaper, to make it a powerful voice of the Sikhs.

Professor Sukhdey Singh, who had taught at least half a dozen of the doctors present, was called upon to give away plaques in recognition of services to the Sikh cause. The World Sikh News and a score of local opinion leaders received the beautifully made plaques.

The words inscribed on the plaque were “Sikh Community of Southern California honors staff members of World Sikh News for their untiring efforts and valuable contribution by providing authentic Sikh news for Sikh struggle for independence.

 NORTHHOLLYWOOD: The Gurdwara Sahib of Lankershim organised a function to honor World Sikh News Sunday Dec 9. The large hall of the gurdwara Sahib was packed. After the ardas and Kirtan S Malkiat Singh Sidhu introduced Dr Grewal to the Sangat.

Dr Grewal made an appeal to all Sikhs to subscribe to the paper so that the Sikhs could have a united and powerful voice in the world as well as counter the propaganda of the Indian govt through its own media. The need of the hour was to get together to end the suffering and oppression of our people in Punjab. Khalistan was the answer to all our problems. WSN was a powerful weapon in achieving this end, he said.

Later S Malkiat Singh Sidhu presented a plaque to World Sikh News. There was a fairly enthusiastic response to the subscription drive.

S Atma Singh, secretary of the gurdwara also appealed for support to WSN and introduced Dr GS. Grewal to the congregation.
