MADRAS: The National Front strongly criticised the Chandra Shekhar government for dismissing the AGP (Assam Gana Parishad) and DMK governments in Assam and Tamil Nadu and called for its resignation and fresh elections to Parliament.
Condemning the dismissal of Tamil Nadu and Assam governments the front accused the centre of abusing article 36 of the constitution to bring the two states under president’s rule. The time has come to review delete or amend this article to prevent its misuse the presidium said in a resolution.
The front also called for immediate elections to Tamil Nadu and Assam state assemblies
The presidium demanded a white paper on the activities of the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) in Tamil Nadu and ULFA (United Liberation Front of Assam) and other militant groups in Assam and other north-eastern states to place facts before Parliament and the people.
