Fresno: The Sikh Community of this area Contributed $7750.00 to the Northern California earth Quake Relief fund. These donations were presented to Mrs Karen Humphrey the mayor of Fresno at a special function held at Sikh temple (Dakota road Fresno) on Sunday Nov. 12, 1989. The Contribution was presented by Dr. Surinder Singh Dhillon, who was the project in charge on behalf of Sikh Community of the areas and the management Committee of the Sikh temple.
Earlier Dr. Gurcharan Singh Sidhu the President of the temple management Committee welcomed the guest of honor. He told the mayor that the Sikhs living in USA feel proud to consider them selves as a part and parcel of the American Society. We share every joy and sorrow with the rest of the ‘American fellowmen, Mr. Sidhu added.
Ms Humphrey , in her brief speech thanked’ the Sikh Congregation for this noble Contributions. She added that this amount will be forwarded to the local Red Cross Society for further transmission to San Fransisco. On her arrival Ms. Karen Humphrey was received by the temple management committee and was taken around the temple complex to a quaint her with the various activities, undertaken by them.
It is worthy to mention that Ms. Karen Humphrey is the first two men Mayor during the 100 years of Fresno history.
