STOCKTON CA: These days a nice looking glass box containing some relics is doing the rounds of California’s Gurdwaras” The relies a Kanga’ small wooden court with one tooth broken a rusted 3 inch knife a ‘Dastar’ piece of cloth and two letters in Punjabi are being introduced as having belonged to Guru Gobind Singh ji. History says he presented these articles to Pir Buddhu Shah for his participation in the battle of Bhangaru.”
On 19 March the secretary of Stockton Gurdwara introduced these articles to the Sikh Sangat present saying the box contained the items of Guru Gobind Singh which are now in the possession of Bibi Salma who is a descendent of Pir Buddhu Shah’s family. However according to the ‘Maha Kosh’ of Bhar Kahn Singh Nabha which is a very weil researched document and highly regarded by Sikh scholars the articles presented to Pir Buddhu Shah were bought from his descendants by the Maharaj of Nabha Bharpur Singh for large sum of money and 3 land Jagir. These are on display at Gurdwara Sirapao where they are installed with great respect and veneration.
The Kanga carried by Bibi Salma does not contain the hair of Guru ji which were also said to have been gifted to Pir Buddhu Shah on this request It is not understood how these articles came into the possession of Bibi Salma; who when questioned by some members of the community displayed ignorance saying the items had been with the family since many generations.
Yet questions remain and their is a feeling in the community that someone may have other information that would clear up this matter If anyone does it is hoped that they would come forward with the details.
