By Our Correspondent ROPAR: The district police has arrested four policemen Ram Singh a Head Constable, Sulekh Chand, Ram Lal and Kanwai Singh all constables in connection with a rape case registered against them on June 23 by two women of Kharar under Sections 366/765 of the IPC at Kharar police station.
According to the police authorities Prem Lal belonged to Ludhiana district police and the other three were posted at Kharar police station and one of them was a mutushi. The victims met the district police chief yesterday.
The case was registered following investigation by Harjeet Singh a DSP posted at SAS Nagar into a complaint the victims a 45 year old woman and her married daughter (25).
HKS Kahlon, Senior Superintendent of Police said here today that the three constables had been suspended and the case of the Head Constable forwarded to the Ludhiana police authorities.
According to the police Sulkeh Chand and Prem Lal went to the house of the victims in plain clothes on the night of June 22. They asked the mother to come to police station with them. She was told that her son had complained against her and was at the police station. When she expressed her reluctance to go with them. She was forcibly taken to the building of Old City Post near the police station and raped by the constables.
Then she was taken to her house. They took her daughter to the building. Three constables raped her. She was released only after her condition deteriorated.
This is one of the many rare instances of police taking even a token action against the policemen, The cops are expected to eventually be reinstated.
Human rights groups have alleged on numerous occasions that policemen have been raping Sikh women (W.S.N. May 19).
